Mini-History of the Student Christian Foundation at SIUC

1935 Dr. Roscoe Pullian, president of Southern Illinois Normal University suggests an organization to relate students to Christianity and the churches in Carbondale.

1939 Student Christian Council is established. President Pulliam hped to have a house near the campus and to have courses offered “to make religion dynamic for the students.”

April 14, 1943 Incorporation of the Student Christian Foundation

March, 1945 Purchase of an eleven room house at 907 South University Street

1955 SIU signs a 99-year lease with SIU for a house at 907 S. Illinois and lot to th south.

March 2, 1959 $100,000 fund raising campaign was initiated for a new building

Oct 22, 1961 Dedicated service for the new SCF building at 913 S. Illinois Avenue.

Nov 1962 House at 907 S. Illinois moved to space near Hanley's Avenue.
